Agriculture Plant Science (AS-T) Agriculture & Natural Resources Total Units: 21
Term Effective: Fall 2018

Description:

See the state issued Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) template for any further clarification regarding program requirements.

The Associate in Science for Transfer in Agriculture Plant Science will provide current and relevant knowledge, skills and abilities through education and hands-on training in Agricultural Science, Animal Science and Agriculture Studies. The main objective of this major is to prepare students for career opportunities in these disciplines.

The Agriculture Plant Science Associate in Science for Transfer degree is designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate degree. California Community College students who are awarded an ADT are guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system. This priority does not guarantee admission to specific majors or campuses. Current and prospective community college students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to develop an educational plan that best meets their goals and needs.

Students are required to complete 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:

  1. The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education ā€“ Breadth Requirements.
  2. A minimum of 21 semester units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district. Students are also required to obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. ADTs also require that students must earn a C or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A ā€œPā€ (Pass) grade is not an acceptable grade for courses in the major.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate relationships of plants, soils, and climates.
  2. Analyze and compare plants, growing conditions, and types of crop production.
  3. Identify and evaluate livestock anatomy and physiology and relate form to function;
  4. Research and analyze production and marketing data for a proposed crop commodity.
  5. Explain the economic aspects of agriculture and their implications to the market.

Associate Degree Requirements:

The major is one of several requirements students need to fulfill in order to be awarded the Associate Degree, the highest level of academic achievement recognized by Santa Rosa Junior College. Please note that all of the following requirements must be met in order for the degree to be conferred:

For all students admitted for the Fall 2009 term or any term thereafter, a grade of "C" or better, or "P" if the course is taken on a pass/no pass basis, is required for each course applied toward the major.

Course Prerequisites and Advisories:

Courses in a program of study may have prerequisites or advisories; that is, courses that must or should be completed before taking that course. Please check for prerequisites or advisories by clicking on the course numbers in the Program Requirements section.

It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework. While many majors at SRJC are intended to align with lower division major preparation required by California public universities, specific lower-division major requirements vary among individual campuses. See a counselor, visit the Transfer Center, and check Guides For Transfer in Specific Majors, and ASSIST to review transfer preparation guides for specific schools and majors.

Notes:

A course used to satisfy the requirements in one category (List A, B, or C) cannot also be used to satisfy the requirements in another category.
