Description:
The Radiologic Technology Certificate of Achievement provides training in the operation of X-ray and computer equipment, performance of radiological procedures, creating and processing radiographs, experience in other advanced imaging modalities, and radiation protection. A minimum of 1,850 clinical hours is required in hospitals and radiology departments affiliated with Santa Rosa Junior College. Elective clinical experience in other modalities is available. The SRJC program, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, is approved by the California State Department of Health Services.
Upon successful program completion, eligible graduates (contact individual health care agencies for specific criteria and pre-application review process) will be allowed to sit for examinations administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the California State Department of Health Services-Radiological Health Branch.
The radiologic technologist provides patient services using imaging equipment, and assists radiologists or other physicians qualified to order and or perform radiologic procedures. The radiologic technologists' main duty is to provide quality patient care while applying critical thinking and knowledge of sciences, positioning, radiation protection, and radiographic technique. Effective communication with patients, other health professionals and the public is important. Additional duties may include management of images, manipulating radiologic software and hardware infrastructure, performing quality assurance procedures and providing patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures.
The employment outlook for radiologic technologists is very good. The growth in job opportunities is a result of the growth in healthcare industries and new uses of diagnostic imaging and therapeutic technology.

Licensure Note:
The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists may deny licensure for felony or misdemeanor offences. It is the responsibility of the student to present sufficient evidence of rehabilitation prior to licensure and/or secure a pre-application process with the ARRT, independent to the program admission application.

Upon successful completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:

Program Requirements Notes:
Program requirements are put in place by external accreditation and regulatory agencies and are not subject to catalog rights. Only college transferable reading and composition courses (English 1A or equivalent) will be accepted to fulfill the English prerequisite requirement. English 100 and ESL 100 will no longer be accepted. This change has been effective since Fall 2009.
Recency: The equivalent to (or higher) ANAT 58, PHYSIO 58, HLC 160, CSKLS 100, MATH 101, MATH 150A, MATH 150B, MATH 151, and MATH 155 must be completed within five years preceding the program application deadline. Beginning with the application due in Spring 2011, only MATH 101, MATH 155, or higher Math will fulfill the program Math requirement.

It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework. While many majors at SRJC are intended to align with lower division major preparation required by California public universities, specific lower-division major requirements vary among individual campuses. All program classes and prerequisites taken in conjunction with this program must be completed with a letter grade of 'C' or better.
