Description:
The Fashion Studies: Apparel Design and Production Certificate of Achievement is designed for students interested in careers as designers, pattern makers, and pattern graders with large or small garment producers, or in a company of the student's own. Students will learn the basic principles of fashion design and illustration, develop patterns for original designs, execute those designs in fabric, and grade patterns into multiple sizes.
This program will prepare students for a variety of occupations including: contract sewing, cutter and finisher, machine operator, sample cutter, sample maker, shipping clerk specialist, trim purchasing clerk, assistant designer/seamstress, first pattern maker, grader, layout worker, marker maker--manual or computer, piece goods buyer, production cutter, production pattern maker, and show room representative.
This program of study is also available as an Associate degree major option.

It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework. While many majors at SRJC are intended to align with lower division major preparation required by California public universities, specific lower-division major requirements vary among individual campuses. See a counselor, visit the Transfer Center, and check Guides For Transfer in Specific Majors, and ASSIST to review transfer preparation guides for specific schools and majors.

Notes:
