Description:
TheComputer Studies: JavaScript Programmer Certificate of Achievement is designed to provide students with the skills needed to succeed in the field of Web site design and development. JavaScript programmers develop scripts for Web sites. These scripts range from simple rollover code to complex JavaScript applications. JavaScript Programmers may be employed as Web Programmers, JavaScript Programmers, JavaScript Developers, Web Developers, Web Programmers/Analysts, or Web Technical Developers. The training stresses usage of the Web as a platform to deliver solutions to business problems. Students will gain an understanding of the relevant Web technologies, the most common software and hardware products, the resources necessary to support a site, and the requirements of site maintenance. The curriculum includes basic programming concepts, HTML, JavaScript structure and syntax, interacting with environmental variables, using event handlers, performing form validation, creating rollover effects, working with cookies and manipulating layers.
This program stresses the practical application of Web development skills on real life projects. Students are expected to work in teams to create Web sites for non-profit organizations in Sonoma County. The ability to work in a group, communicate with a client, resolve problems, meet deadlines, and understand the Web development cycle is just as important as understanding HTML or creating JavaScript. This hands-on approach ensures that as students complete the program, they will have practical experience, as well as working Web sites to feature in an electronic portfolio.
Web development careers include job titles such as Webmaster, Web Programmer, Web Content Developer, Web Site Artist, Web Engineer, and Web Database Administrator. Whatever titles are applied to the positions, the skills required seem to fall into the categories of design, programming, database integration, and system administration.
