Description:

The Digital Media: General Multimedia Skills Certificate introduces students to the process of designing and producing interactive content for the web and other media. Students will acquire the skills necessary to obtain entry-level positions as multimedia authors, technicians, artists, programmers and developers in various media industries.

Multimedia developers are on the cutting edge of computer technology. They combine graphics, text, sound, animation, and video to make the wired world a dynamic place. Multimedia content can be found in video games, websites, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and touch screen computer kiosks. It can also be found in many advanced business presentations and performance art pieces. Professionals use Dreamweaver, Flash, and video to create and maintain websites and create CDs and multimedia presentations within the organization. Students completing the General Multimedia Completion Certificate will have the necessary skills to enter the job market as Web Designers, Web Masters, Streaming Video Specialists, and Project Managers.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:

1. Complete professional projects, products, and other assignments in Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop and video editing software applications;
2. demonstrate analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills as they apply to digital multimedia; and
3. integrate knowledge of the principles and standards of digital multimedia design and demonstrate this in professional projects and assignments that rely on software and programming language expertise.

It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework.
