Description:
The Child Development Associate Teacher Skills Certificate meets requirements for the Associate Teacher level of the Child Development Permit issued by the State of California Commission on Teacher Preparation. This certificate program represents the first rung of a career ladder. Students completing this certificate program may continue with the Child Development Teacher Certificate to enhance their employment opportunities. Students frequently find jobs in both publicly funded and private centers for early care and education.
Job titles include Teacher Aide, Assistant
Child Care Worker, Associate Preschool Teacher.
Employers generally report that it is very difficult to find applicants who meet their hiring standards. This indicates a very good outlook for qualified job seekers.

It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework. While many majors at SRJC are intended to align with lower division major preparation required by California public universities, specific lower-division major requirements vary among individual campuses.
