Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Incorporate theoretical principles from nursing fundamentals course, NRV 51, to demonstrate the planning and implementation of fundamental and basic medical surgical nursing skills for adult and gerontological clients.
2.  Apply infection control principles and standard precautions to the implementation of fundamental and basic medical surgical nursing skills.
3.  Demonstrate psychomotor competency in the performance of select fundamental and basic medical surgical nursing skills for the adult, mental health, pediatric and maternal child client.

Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to:
1.  Incorporate theoretical principles from the fundamentals/basic vocational nursing course into the planning and implementation of fundamental/basic medical surgical  nursing skills for simulated adult and gerontological patients.
2.  Apply infection control principles to the implementation of fundamental and basic medical surgical nursing skills.
3.  Use anatomical landmarks to perform physical assessments of simulated adult and gerontological patients.
4.  Compare and contrast assessment findings gathered in the examination of simulated adult and gerontological patients with physiologic norms [emphasis on well adult and gerontological patients].
5.  Demonstrate psychomotor competency in the performance of selected fundamental and basic medical surgical skills.
6.  Communicate therapeutically with adult and gerontological patients.
7.  Teach fundamental self-care skills to patients.
8.  Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions on adult and gerontological patients.
9.  Work cooperatively as a member of a team to ensure that all members achieve learning objectives.
10.  Prioritize assessments and interventions for adult and gerontological patients whose problems concern a single acute or sub-acute illness.
