This course teaches CPR and First Aid emergency response skills which enable participants to give immediate care to a person who has been injured or is experiencing a sudden illness. This course satisfies first-time and renewal certifications. Students must be admitted to the Indentured roofer apprentice program, to register for this class.
Prerequisites/Corequisites:
Minimum Age 18 or older
Recommended Preparation:
Limits on Enrollment:
Admission to Program - Indentured Roofer Apprenticeship.
Applicants shall be at least 18-years of age at the time of indenture.

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Perform and explain CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and obstructed airway skills.
2. Perform and explain standard first aid skills which include: comprehensive victim assessment, control of severe bleeding, wound care, treatment for shock, burns, bone, joint and muscle injuries, heat and cold exposure, and sudden illness.
3. Qualify for a completion certificate in First Aid training.

1. Assess an unconscious person
2. Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
3. Perform obstructed airway skills
4. Place an unconscious victim (who is breathing) in the recovery position
5. Perform a comprehensive assessment on a conscious person who is injured or has a sudden
illness
6. Recognize the signs and symptoms of cardiovascular emergencies (including heart attack,
angina, and stroke)
7. Administer first aid for control of external bleeding and internal bleeding
8. Provide first aid for wounds and embedded objects
9. Administer first aid for shock (including anaphylaxis)
10. Administer first aid for thermal, chemical, and electrical burns
11. Administer first aid for bone and joint injuries (including fractures, dislocations, sprains, and
strains)
12. Provide first aid for diabetic emergencies
13. Administer first aid for seizures
14. Administer first aid for heat related emergencies (including heat cramps, heat exhaustion,
