Students will complete the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) smog check Repair Technician update training. The course includes current training materials as recommended by BAR as well as the required examination. A passing exam score qualifies student to renew a valid smog technician license, or apply to take the California BAR.

1. Describe and apply in practice current legislative updates relative to the implementation of a vehicle smog check.
2. Cite examples of changes to smog check procedures detailed in current version of the BAR Smog Check Inspection Manual.

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Cite examples of changes to smog check procedures detailed in current version of the BAR Smog Check Inspection Manual or any addenda to the manual.
2. Locate and interpret pertinent information related to performing a vehicle smog check in the current version of the Smog Check Inspection Manual or any addenda to the manual in order to perform a smog check test correctly on a variety of vehicles.
3. Perform a smog check utilizing the latest technology updates, as determined by BAR.
4. Describe and apply in practice current legislative updates relative to the implementation of a vehicle smog check.
5. Evaluate and explain total smog test results to the customer.
6. Qualify to renew a valid smog technician license or apply to take the BAR Smog Check Technician Licensing Exam.

4. Skill demonstrations using technical equipment in accordance with current BAR technology and standards
5. Performance exams
6. Final exam provided by BAR (utilizing any additional materials provided by BAR)
 
 
All assignments are covered in the lecture and lab portions of the course.
