COURSE CONTENT

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Converse in French on a wide range of topics and in varied
     social contexts.
2.   Share opinions, express intentions, describe, summarize, give
     and follow directions, tell stories, plan and organize events, communicate
     feelings--all in French and with minimal use of the dictionary.
3.  Speak French with minimal accent and without undue hesitation.
4.  Comprehend French spoken clearly at normal pace.

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Speak extemporaneously in French in such contexts as: business and
     commerce, meetings, travel, planning, negotiations, intimate relationships,
     discussions of past experience, future possibilities and hypotheticals.
2. Speak French using vocabulary needed for the great majority of common
     circumstances and basic grammar required for comprehensibility.
3. Identify the main ideas when listening to French spoken by native speakers
     on typical cultural topics such as politics, cultural events and people of note.

    interpretation of authentic French-language material
2. Class performances, such as presentation of original speeches and skits

5. Role-plays on specific interpersonal situations
6. Weekly pair and small group discussions, dialogue writing and improvisations
7. Oral grammar and syntax exercises
