COURSE CONTENT
Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Perform each Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) function required in the State of California
Practical Exam to the stated criteria of the Dental Board of California.
2. Perform allowable duties for a RDA to include placing liners, bases, bonding agents, isolation
devices, and matrices utilizing safety precautions.
Objectives:

Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify legal functions permissible for a Dental Assistant, Registered Dental Assistant,
Registered Dental Assistant in Extended Functions, and supervisory requirements for each.
2. Fabricate custom, preformed, and aluminum or stainless steel provisional crowns.
3. Describe the indications and contraindications for provisional crowns and restorations.
4. Temporarily cement a crown and a bridge on a model.
5. Discuss the continuing education requirements of licensure renewal.
6. Place, condense, carve, and finish a direct provisional Class ll restoration.
7. Develop proficiency in placing bases, liners and bonding agents on prepared tooth.
8. Develop proficiency in placing and removal of a rubber dam, or isolation device, and matrix
and wedge on a typodont.
9. Obtain intra-oral images for computer-aided design (CAD) milled restorations.
10. Adjust dentures extra-orally.
11. Describe criteria for adequacy for each RDA function.
12. Describe the precautions and safety measures necessary while performing any of the RDA
functions.
13. Discuss the importance of continuing education for licensure.
