This course is intended for caregivers, foster, kinship and adoptive parents, home day care providers, educators, and any mandated reporter who assists in the care of medically fragile infants. This is the second in a two-part series; the second part is a practicum using baby simulators. Students will also visit and observe medically fragile infants and their caregivers, if and when they are available during the timeframe of the course.

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Apply principles of care for medically fragile infants using an infant simulator.
2.  Analyze issues that may present themselves when caring for medically fragile infants and
    recommend appropriate techniques to resolve those problems.
3.  Describe coping skills and self-care practices for caregivers.
 

Objectives: Untitled document
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate appropriate, standards-based care for the medically-fragile infant, using an infant
    simulator.
2. Create a caregiving plan for a medically fragile infant, taking into account likely problems,
    and providing solutions in caring for such an infant.
3. Create a list of coping skills and self-care methodologies during simulation, which would
    extend to the care of a real infant.
