COURSE CONTENT
Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

The students will:
1. Identify various types of make-up used in theatre, film video and
photography.
2. Demonstrate a variety of make-up application techniques.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of historical types of make-up and
arrangement.
4. Interpret a production through make-up design.
5. Utilize original and creative use of make-up, hair, plastics and
other material to solve make-up in straight, character and non-
realistic applications.
6. Demonstrate the ability to create three-dimensional shapes through
use of paint and sculpture.
7. Demonstrate the use of basic materials and techniques in creating
three dimensional make-up, including molds, simple prosthetics
and masks.
Topics and Scope

1. Molding in clay and putty: classical and fantastic facial shapes.
2. Mold make-up; materials and process.
3. Prosthetics in latex and foam.
4. Painting and texturing.
5. Application in three dimensional techniques.
Assignments:

1. Design and apply make-ups in a laboratory situation and during the
run of a major production.
2. Compile and organize a pictorial notebook of facial types, animals
and insects.
3. Complete a facial casting in plaster.
4. Shape at least one piece for a mold in plaster and another in clay.
5. Complete the molding process by constructing a prosthetic piece.
6. Paint and apply at least one prosthetic piece in a make-up.
