At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Be able to demonstrate combination series.
Be able to analyze body movement as an art form.
Have the knowledge to develop a personalized dance form.

Topics and Scope

-THEORY
--History: of modern ballet and the origins of the current
 schools of technique.
--Aesthetics:  ballet as a changing art form, and its relationship
 to the dance/theatre
--Assignment: to view a performance of both ballet and modern
 dance, and to discuss and compare their styles.  Reading.
-TECHNIQUE
--Continuation of the practice and performance of steps in the
 ballet vocabulary, to develop strength, flexibility alignment,
 and balance.  Particular emphasis on kinesthetic awareness and style
--Barre Work
---plies,tendues,rondes de jambes for  alignments
---extensions, stretches-for strength and suppleness
---adage-for balance, fluidity, strength, style, and alignment
---Etc., through the complex repertoire of ballet warm-ups,
  working individual body part-muscle groups, and whole body.
--Center Practice
---port de bras and adage - for balance and fluidity
---individual steps, jumps and turns
---allegro- for speed and agility
COMBINATIONS
- Incorporation of technical  practice into working amalgamated
 combinations designed to develop preformance qualities and
 style as well as physical and mental agility.
-Composition fundamentals in the ballet style using tools
developed in technical practice, and knowledge from historic
and aesthetic studies.

--special design using people and movement
--rhythmic content of movement and its relationship to music
