COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

The students will:
1.  Examine the difference between contemporary and Japanese floral  art.
2.  Recognize various forms of contemporary floral art.
3.  Recognize various forms of Japanese floral art.
4.  Develop skills needed for both forms.
5.  Develop a working vocabulary of Japanese and western style arranging
   and the understanding of their meanings and uses.
6.  Employ creative thinking skills and exercise decision making skills
   related to each form of arranging.
7.  Create basic Japanese arrangements.
8.  Create basic contemporary arrangements.
9.  Develop and exercise creativity in arranging.

Topics and Scope

1.  Develop an awareness of appropriate materials for each style of
   arrangement.
2.  Learn the principles of design.
3.  Apply the principles of design.
4.  Create several styles of contemporary style arrangements.
5.  Create several styles of Japanese style arrangement.
6.  Appropriate containers for the different styles.
7.  Chabana arrangement.
8.  Create interest in creative and innovative arranging.

Assignments:

4.  Create a basic Japanese arrangement.
5.  Create Japanese style arrangements in 8 variations.
6.  Create contemporary arrangements in the 5 geometric forms.
7.  Create arrangements using lines.
8.  Create arrangements using mass.
9.  Create arrangements in the abstract form.
10. Create arrangements using imagination and creativity.
