Mathematics (AA) Mathematics Total Units: 20.0

Term Effective: Fall 2010

The requirements for this program of study are effective beginning the semester shown above. If you began working on this program before the effective semester, you may not be affected by the changes. Consult with the program contact person or the department chair to determine your eligibility to complete the program under previous requirements.

Term Inactive: Spring 2013

Associate Degree Requirements:

The major is one of several requirements students need to fulfill in order to be awarded the Associate Degree, the highest level of academic achievement recognized by Santa Rosa Junior College. Please note that all of the following requirements must be met in order for the degree to be conferred:

For all students admitted for the Fall 2009 term or any term thereafter, a grade of "C" or better, or "P" if the course is taken on a pass/no pass basis, is required for each course applied toward the major.

Previous Versions:

Mathematics - effective Fall 2001

Description:

The Mathematics major is designed to help guide the student seeking a bachelor's degree in mathematics to fulfill the lower division requirements for that degree.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this major, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to use symbolic, graphical, and numerical representations of mathematical ideas and to communicate mathematical results in a clear, organized and contextually accurate manner;
  2. perform advanced operations with functions of one or more variables, including algebraic, transcendental, and vector-valued; understand the characteristics and graphs of functions; and apply this knowledge to modeling problems;
  3. apply mathematical techniques including solving equations and inequalities, solving systems of equations and inequalities, differentiation, and integration, to problems that arise in the real world;
  4. use and apply conic sections, polar graphs, parametric equations, vectors, complex numbers, sequences, and series; and
  5. engage in logical and critical thinking in mathematics.
