Background Investigation - effective Fall 1981

Description:

This single-course certificate is designed for those individuals who conduct preemployment personnel background investigations for public safety employment. The student will be introduced to the federal and state fair employment laws, job dimensions, job traits, and essential functions of the background investigator. The student will understand the role and responsibilities of the investigator in the preemployment background investigation process, and will gain the ability to conduct effective preemployment interviews as well as how to document a thorough preemployment background investigation.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  1. Describe the background investigation process;
  2. Demonstrate the responsibilities involved in conducting a public safety pre-employment background investigation;
  3. Explain the role of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as a resource for conducting a pre-employment background investigation; and
  4. Recognize the laws and regulations involved in the background investigation process.
