The Juvenile Correctional Officer Basic Course Skills Certificate is a state mandated course of instruction for entry-level staff currently employed or seeking employment as a juvenile counselor. The Juvenile Correctional Officer course is designed to ensure safe, secure, humane and constructive care for minors under the officers' supervision and control. The course includes orientation, transportation, daily care and custody, report writing, handling emergencies, and other tasks as required. In addition to earning this certificate, completers may need additional qualifying experience and/or to meet specific hiring agency requirements before obtaining employment in this occupational field. Juvenile correctional officers are positions at local county juvenile hall facilities. This career field is open to individuals interested in working with juvenile offenders incarcerated for minor offenses.
