Description:
The Computer Studies: HTML Web Content Developer Skills Certificate is designed to provide students with the skills needed to succeed in the field of Web site design and development. Web content developers may be employed as Graphic Art Technicians, Prepress Technicians and Workers, Website Designers/ Developers, Desktop Publishing Specialists, Desktop Publishers, or Graphic Designers. The training stresses usage of the Web as a platform to deliver solutions to business problems. Students will gain an understanding of the relevant Web technologies, the most common software and hardware products, the resources necessary to support a site, and the requirements of site maintenance. The curriculum covers HTML, cascading style sheets, site maintenance, and problem solving skills.
HTML certification is based on a thorough knowledge of HTML and practical experience working on a client Web site. HTML Content developers are responsible for creating the majority of Web pages that make up a Web site. The HTML content developer is responsible for assembling and organizing site content, making the pages, loading them onto the Web, and testing them on various browsers and hardware configurations. Depending on the project, an HTML developer may also be asked to edit the written content and make minor modifications to images.
The training provides a thorough understanding of HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, FTP and the Web development cycle. The program stresses the practical application of Web development skills on real life projects. Students are expected to work in teams to create Web sites for non-profit organizations in Sonoma County. The ability to work in a group, communicate with a client, resolve problems, meet deadlines, and understand the Web development cycle are just as important as understanding HTML or creating Web pages. This hands-on approach ensures that as students complete the program, they will have practical experience, as well as working Web sites to feature in an electronic portfolio.
A successful HTML content developer exhibits a strong work ethic, perfectionists standard, patience, strong people skills and shows an attention to detail.
Job titles include: Web Production Specialist, Web Developer, Internet Developer, HTML Coder, HTML Developer.

Program Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:
- Develop a competency in specific web development skills in the area of coding, validation and user interface;
- apply the skills of effective communication, time management, problem solving, and client management as they plan and produce a web site; and
- evaluate the numerous tools available to create a web site and select the appropriate tools for the specific situation.
