Description:

The Vocational Nursing to Nursing (ADN) Career Certificate at Santa Rosa Junior College has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, and prepares the student for entry into the practice of professional registered nursing. Students receive clinical experiences in a variety of clinical facilities and community agencies throughout Sonoma County.

This program has been designed to provide an opportunity for the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to complete the requirements for an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) Career Certificate and be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN, the professional licensing examination to become a registered nurse, in less time than required to complete the generic ADN program.

It is strongly advised that all applicants attend a Counseling Pre-nursing Information Meeting and consult with a health sciences counselor prior to beginning the program prerequisites.

Click here for supplemental information about the program, and contact the Health Sciences Department for more information. For students interested in an Associate Degree, a Dental Hygiene major is available.

Licensure Note: The California Board of Registered Nursing may deny licensure to anyone who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor. It is the responsibility of the student to present sufficient evidence of rehabilitation prior to licensure. Contact the Health Sciences Department for more information.

Course Prerequisites and Advisories:

Courses in a program of study may have prerequisites or advisories; that is, courses that must or should be completed before taking that course. Please check for prerequisites or advisories by clicking on the course numbers in the Program Requirements section.

It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework. While many majors at SRJC are intended to align with lower division major preparation required by California public universities, specific lower-division major requirements vary among individual campuses. See a counselor, visit the Transfer Center, and check Guides For Transfer in Specific Majors, and ASSIST to review transfer preparation guides for specific schools and majors.

Notes:

CHEM 60 and BIO 10 are prerequisites to the Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology courses.
Because basic algebra is recommended for chemistry, students without basic algebra skills are advised to take Elementary Algebra.
Food & Nutrition and Psychology courses must be completed by the end of the first semester of the Nursing program.
The Nursing Major Core Requirements sequence begins in the fall semester.

Upon acceptance into the program, the student must complete or obtain the following:
1) physical examination form
2) required health documentation
3) current CPR card

The department recommends passage of the math proficiency exam to fulfill the Associate Degree math proficiency requirement prior to beginning the program.

All classes must be completed with a C or better to receive the Certificate.
