2. Apply music theory concepts to enhance improvisation techniques in various styles including pop, jazz, blues, or their own music.
3. Play major and minor scales in all keys.

I. Technique and Theory
A. Performance of major and minor scales in all keys
B. Chords
1. Major, minor, augmented, and diminished triads in all keys
2. Seventh chords: dominant, diminished, half-diminished, major, and minor in all keys
3. Performance of chords: blocked and arpeggiated, root position and inverted in all keys
C. Study advanced musical repertoire
II. Sight reading of music at appropriate level
III. Functional Skills
A. Harmonizing melodies with all chords learned in a variety of accompaniment patterns
B. Advanced harmonic progressions utilizing seventh chords and inversions
C. Improvisation techniques in various styles including pop, jazz, blues, or the students' own music
IV. Repertoire and Performance
A. Developing performance skills
B. Performance of intermediate to advanced solo keyboard literature
V. Practice
A. Developing effective practice routines
B. Procedures for handling difficult passages
C. Expansion of methods studied in MUSP 11C

Assignments are sequenced to develop skill in technique, sight reading, harmonizing melodies, improvisation, and performance of repertoire.
Lecture-Related and Lab-Related Assignments:
1. Preparation and in-class performance of two or more pieces from the standard solo keyboard literature
2. Technical exercises: scales and chords in all keys
3. Harmonizing melodies using diatonic triads and seventh chords in a variety of styles
4. Sight reading in class at an intermediate to advanced level
5. Final exam is a solo performance in front of the class
