Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Speak, write, read, and listen at the intermediate level in Italian
2.  Demonstrate comprehension of Italian spoken by native speakers on most common topics.
3.  Conduct conversations in Italian on a wide variety of topics, including expressing preferences, opinions, fears, and desires.
4.  Explain the contents of pieces of journalism and literature both orally and in writing.

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Compose essays of 500 words in Italian on topics of general or societal interest.
2. Converse and speak extemporaneously on a wide range of personal topics.
3. Comprehend Italian spoken naturally on a wide range of common topics.
4. Comprehend the general meaning of short fiction and non-fiction written in Italian
     with the help of a dictionary.
5. Discuss and answer questions about short fiction and non-fiction orally and in writing.
6. Produce and employ with relative ease most regular and irregular verb conjugations.
7. Correctly use and place pronouns (subject, reflexive, direct, indirect object and disjunctive).
8. Produce and employ with relative ease most everyday Italian vocabulary words, common
    idioms, and some theme-specific vocabulary extracted from readings.
9. Correctly pronounce Italian words.

2.   Read short fiction, poetry, or articles of cultural interest (averaging 7 pages per week)
3.   Memorize vocabulary and verb conjugations (averaging 75 words per week)
4.   Complete written exercises in textbook/ textbook website and/or workbook
5.   Review for quizzes and exams (averaging 1 hour per week)
6.   Spoken and written answers to questions on readings (15 minutes per week)
7.   Written essays in Italian of 500 words (2 per semester)
8.   Class performances and activities (group or individual), such as listening comprehension and
      dictation exercises
9.   Oral participation in discussions and activities in Italian
10. Quizzes, tests, chapter tests, final exam which include reading, writing, and comprehension
