COURSE CONTENT

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Describe and demonstrate roofing principles and regulations related to the roofing trade.  

2. Apply best practices in practical environment related to the roofers' trade.

 

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Identify the preparation activities for the application of

    asphalt and wooden shingles on new construction and reroofing

    jobs.

2. Describe the application procedures for applying shingles.

Topics and Scope

I. Shingling Materials, Tools, and Equipment

    A. Safety

     B. Preliminary work

    C. Application of asphalt shingles in new construction

    D. Reroofing with asphalt shingles

    E. Application of roll roofing

    F. Application of wood shingles and shakes

Assignments:

1. Homework assignments (1 to 2 sets per week)

2. Quizzes and examinations (4 to 6 per semester)

3. Class performances and field work (on-the-job demonstrations) of skill development, safety

    practices, equipment, and material handling.
