Based upon assessment of student needs, at the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to do one or more of the following:
1. Effectively and safely use sewing machines and lab equipment to complete class projects.
2. Identify and apply the techniques necessary for developing garment patterns.
3. Demonstrate professional garment construction techniques to complete class projects.
4. Effectively utilize design and illustration techniques required to complete fashion coursework.
5. Identify and select appropriate fabrics for apparel design projects.
Topics and Scope

1. Safe operation of apparel construction equipment
2. Fabric layout and cutting
3. Pattern alterations based on body measurements
4. Pattern drafting and draping techniques
5. Construction techniques for woven and knit fabrics
6. Development of original apparel designs
7. Using classroom library and periodicals for research and design
8. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or other software tools related to fashion design
9. Textile analysis and fabric selection
10. Career development strategies
