1. Interpret current cardiology science and practice as it relates to Basic Life Support (BLS) in a healthcare setting.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and skills required for certification by American Heart Association in BLS.

1. Describe the application of BLS
2. Identify and discuss life-threatening arrhythmias
3. List the major causes of cardiopulmonary arrest
4. Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
5. Discuss the interpersonal problems encountered during a resuscitative procedure among professional staff
6. Use adjunctive equipment for airway and ventilatory maintenance

B. Early AED use
C. Ventilation with basic airway equipment
II. Pathophysiology of sudden cardiac arrest and lethal dysrhythmias
