In this course, high school students will be introduced to opportunities in healthcare careers through lecture, laboratory, and experiences in clinical settings. Careers include, but are not limited to: Nursing, Nursing Assistant, Nutrition, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, and Radiologic Technology. Students will complete Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Question Persuade Refer (QPR), and First Aid trainings. The course also covers healthcare job trends, education, and licensure requirements.

High School students must be current on following immunizations: MMR, Varicella-Zoster, Tdap, Covid-19 vaccination series and current TB clearance. Finger printing, drug testing and clean background clearance required. Proper paperwork must be completed and submitted to instructor prior to deadline as published in schedule.

1. Observe and identify the roles and responsibilities, scope of practice, educational requirements, and personal characteristics associated with a career in specific health occupations.
2. Utilize appropriate medical terms and abbreviations in clinical situations in health occupations.
3. Demonstrate relevant professional verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills to establish and enhance rapport in health occupations.
4. Identify and apply professional characteristics, legal, and ethical requirements to common situations encountered in health occupations.
5. Analyze and apply research and critical thinking skills relevant to healthcare.
6. Perform CPR techniques for an infant, child, and adult consistent with certification standards.
7. Demonstrate first aid techniques for an obstructed airway, heart attack, and shock consistent with certification standards.
8. Complete QPR Suicide Prevention certification training.
9. Perform vital sign measurements and employ techniques to control spread of infection in a clinical setting.
