COURSE CONTENT

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Demonstrate basic sewing and garment construction techniques.

2. Identify and discuss the equipment and materials used in fashion design and apparel production.

 

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

 

1. Safely operate a sewing machine, iron, and other basic sewing equipment.

2. Select appropriate fabrics and notions for a variety of sewing applications.

3. Recognize vocabulary and terminology related to garment construction.

4. Interpret pattern symbols used to guide garment assembly.

5. Practice simple pattern alterations required for fit and design.

6. Complete samples of a variety of seam types and finishes.

7. Create samples and/or assemble garments containing darts, pockets, facings, gathers, buttons

    and buttonholes, zippers, sleeves, and a variety of seams and seam finishes.
