COURSE CONTENT

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.   Design and create wedding floral arrangements and body flowers that meet client needs and expectations.

2.   Work effectively to coordinate wedding flowers with client, members of the bridal party, caterers, and others involved in a wedding.

 

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1.  Properly handle flowers and greens to preserve freshness and visual appeal.

2.  Summarize the elements involved in performing a wedding consultation.

3.  Apply techniques for creating a variety of types of wedding bouquets and body flowers.

4.  Coordinate floral designs with gowns and other wedding elements.

5.  Work effectively with caterers, bakers, and site officials.

6.  Locate and purchase flowers and accessories appropriate for wedding designs.

7.  Create wedding displays for use at wedding and reception sites.

Assignments:

Assignments may include:

1.  Design & create a variety of wedding flowers in class.

    a. all foliage bouquet

    b. basic nosegay

    c. teardrop bouquet

    d. cascade bouquet

    e. hand tied/compact

2.  Portfolio: assemble photos of design projects with accompanying journal entries listing materials and describing methods for each project.

3.  Midterm written project.

4.  Final project and presentation: design and create a wedding bouquet.

Writing: Assessment tools that demonstrate writing skill and/or require students to select, organize and explain ideas in writing.		Writing 0 - 0%
None
This is a degree applicable course but assessment tools based on writing are not included because skill demonstrations are more appropriate for this course.
Problem solving: Assessment tools, other than exams, that demonstrate competence in computational or non-computational problem solving skills.		Problem Solving 10 - 20%
