Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Upon successful completion of this course the students will be able to:
1. Examine the special topics in biology through lecture and library research.
2. Read and analyze text material and current research literature in relation to the special topic.
3. Evaluate biological concepts in relation to the specific topic, in both essay exams and analysis research papers.
4. Relate the relevance of the special topic to the field of biology.

will emphasize the study and understanding of a particular biological
topic of current importance.

Assignments:

These will vary widely with each specific course, but will always include:
1. Reading in textbooks or current biological literature, 10-50 pages per week
2. Writing assignment: reports summarizing text or current literature articles and/or research paper analyzing current biological topic, MLA documentation
3. Examinations: quizzes, midterms, cumulative final exam
4. Active participation in class discussions
