    b. Expand knowledge of literary, cultural or social phenomena related to the French-
       speaking world.

1. General:  it is recommended that an assignment include the creation of a
    'FREN 49 Portfolio of Materials' which the student can use in the UC petition
    process.  The length of the portfolio will vary according to units afforded.
2.  Specific assignments are established according to the Special Studies 49
    Courses Application proposed by the student and approved by the
    supervising faculty, department chairperson, and supervising administrator.
