FIVE labs will be held on campus, and the remainder will take place online. The dates of lab meetings that take place on campus will depend on the public health situation. For labs that are meeting on campus, the lab lecture that week will be conducted asynchronously to allow for transit time. CHEM 3AL is the lab portion of the first-semester general chemistry (formerly CHEM 1A). CHEM 3A and CHEM 3AL are corequisites. A student needs to sign up for one section of CHEM 3A and CHEM 3AL. Social distancing and adherence to safe health protocols will be required for participants.

This class requires physical attendance in the lab in order to achieve learning objectives. Currently, the Sonoma County Health Department has not given SRJC permission to run this course but it is being reviewed and SRJC administration is reasonably confident it will be approved. The course will utilize Zoom for instruction. Field Labs (if approved) will be face-to-face and will practice strict social distancing, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to strict class protocols. Students are required to have a suitable computer, reliable internet access, and a functioning webcam that has both video and audio capabilities. SRJC does have a first-come-first-served laptop loaner program through SRJC Student Services. Cell phones and the majority of tablets will not suffice. Computers must be capable of running a web browser, Zoom, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Earth. Active synchronous visible participation and attendance are required for the entire duration of all lectures and any non-field, online labs. Further details will be provided in the course syllabus when available and during the first class meeting.
