Creative Arts for Older Adults
Description:This course is designed to enrich the quality of life of older adults through art. A variety of media such as painting, drawing, crafts and collage encourage creativity and self-expression. Course activities promote or maintain physical, mental, social and emotional well-being and accommodate varying skill levels. This course is offered at numerous locations in Sonoma County.

 Class focuses on Expressive Arts. In this class we will explore a realm of possibilities for art-making. We will experience the enjoyment of many different creative and art-making techniques, including painting, movement and writing. Creative / Expressive Arts focus on both the process and the product. In the beginning of each class, there will be a discussion on that week’s artistic exercise, followed by creative art-making and sharing. Let us enjoy our creative selves!  Class focuses on Creative Process Open Studio. This class provides students with self-directed open time to explore art media of their choice, in a supportive environment. Class will include open studio time, discussion of the creative process, inspiration from various approaches to creativity, collaborative art exercises and reflection on the creative journey.

 Class focuses on Mixed Media Painting. Guided experiments teach students how different mixed media materials work and what effects they create. Use a variety of acrylic mediums, fabric, ink, pastel, pencil, pens, rice paper, sand and more. Add depth and visual interest to paintings with dimensional textures and learn how to incorporate interesting collage materials. Just the right blend of structure and play with an attitude of openness encourages creative freedom.

 Class focuses on painted nature collage. Learn unique techniques of adhering natural materials, layering, priming, painting and sealing organic objects . Using various textures of seedpods, seaweed, different types of leaves and dried flowers as well as lichens to create eco inspired compositions that draw on the glorious perfection of natural forms and the sensuous textures found in nature.
