Introductory Spanish for Spanish Speakers |
Description: | Introductory Spanish for Spanish speakers who have had little or no formal training in the language. Building upon students’ existing skills, this course will provide strategies for reading, writing and speaking incorporating usage of standard academic Spanish. Special emphasis will be given to vocabulary expansion, accurate use of grammar, accentuation, punctuation, and orthography. The course will present topics related to Latino culture, literature and history to deepen students’ appreciation of their linguistic and cultural heritage. |
Prerequisites: | Course Completion of Spanish 1; or 2 years high school Spanish or equivalent |
Recommended Preparation: | Eligibility for ENGL 1A or equivalent |

| This section is offered fully online and is designed for Heritage Spanish speakers or those with native fluency. If you have not taken Spanish classes before, you can take this class by filling out the online Prerequisite Challenge Form. If you have taken Spanish classes before, please complete the form and enroll in the Span 41 course. All students are welcome to enroll in this class; and this section will have extra support from the Lanzamiento initiative The Language Lab in Emeritus Rm 1525 is available Tues & Thurs 12 - 5pm. This Lab is equipped with full computer lab workstations and free internet access to support you with your online and in-person language classes. Students using the Language Lab are required to meet the vaccine mandate requirements and to check in at a Safety Monitor station before entering. |
