Beginning Clinical Skills for Medical Assisting
Description:Course focuses on beginning clinical medical assisting skills and responsibilities for the clinical area of a medical office or other appropriate medical facility. Covers proper handwashing; use of personal protective equipment; medical and surgical aseptic procedures; vital signs determination; assisting with physical examinations/rooming, including safe transfers, positioning and draping, height, weight, obtaining patient history; disinfection and sterilization techniques; assisting with minor office procedures; application of physical agents to promote tissue healing; patient teaching on ambulatory aids and cast care.
Prerequisites:Course Completion of HLC 160, LIR 10, PSYCH 1A, ANAT 140, HLC 140; AND Concurrent Enrollment in MA 160, MA 161, MA 162, MA 167
Recommended Preparation:Eligibility for ENGL 1A or equivalent
Repeatability:Two Repeats if Grade was D, F, NC, or NP
Grading Type:Grade Only

 MANDATORY Orientation and skill pack pick up on Wednesday, 8/10 from 9am-12pm, Race Building, 2nd floor, Skills Lab 4044. All registered students will receive an email from Kat Slusser to get instructions on how to order your clinical skills supplies pack, and how to order your ID badges. Please wear the complete uniform to the mandatory orientation as described here Uniform Dress Code Requirements. You will be given your ID badges at orientation.
