ORIENTATION on Thurs, 5/18/17, 5-7pm, in Race, 4035. The above section has 20.5 weekly hours by arrangement. Because of the health requirements of the healthcare facilities in which students are placed for their externships, all students must comply with all of the following before an add code will be given to the student to register for the class: 1) Negative urine drug screen (done by CastleBranch - can take up to 4 weeks to process once submitted). 2) Negative background check (done by CastleBranch - can take up to 4 weeks to process once submitted). 3) Clear health evaluation form (use 4-page SRJC form). 4) Current American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed ‘BLS Provider’ certification card (formerly known as ‘Healthcare Provider’). Must include AED, infant, child, adult. CPR cards without the AHA seal are NOT accepted. ‘Heartsaver’ card is NOT accepted. American Red Cross is NOT accepted. 5) Currency on all immunizations including: a) Positive hepatitis B titer OR a complete hepatitis B series with positive titer after last dose (takes 6 months to complete). First 2 doses must be complete in order to receive the add code, and the 3rd dose must be complete before the student will be allowed to begin the onsite internships/externships. b) 2 Step PPD (Tuberculosis skin test). The 1st TB skin test is placed and read, then the 2nd test is placed and read from a week to a month later. (Do not have the MMR immunizations immediately before this test.) c) Positive varicella titer OR a complete series of varicella vaccines. d) Complete series of Tdap vaccines (if given more than 10 years ago, booster must have been completed within the last 10 years). e) Positive titer for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) OR a complete series of MMR vaccines. f) Current annual flu vaccine. Declinations are not accepted unless there is a documented medical contraindication to the flu shot. To fulfill the current annual requirement for administrative rotations starting in the Summer semester, the student can obtain the flu shot anytime in the current year's flu season, but far enough in advance to submit the documentation to receive the add code to register for the class (recommended to receive the vaccine in January or February at the latest). In order to get the drug screen and background check done, as well as submit all health documentation, students will be required to purchase a package code from CastleBranch. This package costs $103.75 and is not optional. Go to Health Requirements for ordering information. For further questions, please contact Katherine Slusser, Medical Assisting Coordinator, at KSlusser@SantaRosa.edu or (707) 524-1720 (email is preferred).
