ASTRON 12 |
Astronomy Observational Lab |
Description: | Observational laboratory in astronomy. Students will utilize small aperture telescopes, binoculars, star charts and planispheres. Constellation identification and terrestrial and celestial coordinate systems will be introduced. Short exposure and deep sky astrophotography will be conducted. In the case of inclement weather, students will utilize the planetarium, classroom, or computer lab to perform required labs. |
Prerequisites: | Course Completion or Concurrent Enrollment in ASTRON 3 OR ASTRON 4 |
Recommended Preparation: | Eligibility for ENGL 100 or ESL 100 and Course Eligibility for MATH 150 or appropriate placement based on AB705 mandates |

| This class will have a mandatory synchronous orientation via Zoom on Wednesday 6/16 from 7:00-8:00pm. There will be two additional mandatory synchronous Zoom meetings from 7:00-8:00pm on Wednesday 6/23 and Wednesday 6/30. This compressed, three-week long class will have approximately 16 hours per week of online, asynchronous content. This course may include optional evening field trips at a Lake Sonoma observing site. |
