Effective Study Workshop
Description:This course is designed to assist students in improving their study skills. Topics include goal identification, organizing study habits, how to read and study textbooks, take effective notes, how to prepare for and take examinations, and the efficient use of the library. Course covers the total development of the individual and attitudes toward academic and personal problem solving.
Recommended Preparation:Eligibility for ENGL 100 or ESL 100
Transferability:CSU

 The above section is part of the Our House Learning Community, which focuses on topics most relevant to first generation, economically disadvantaged students. This section is linked to COMM 1, TTH 10am-12pm and ENGL 1A, MW 10am-12pm. Students are automatically enrolled in all three classes. All enrolled students must complete an application to participate in the program: https://petaluma.santarosa.edu/form/our-house-learning-community. Participation in this learning community also requires attendance at one orientation during the summer (orientation dates TBA), one to two Friday field trips during the semester, as well as monthly check-in meetings on the first Tuesday of each month @ 12pm – 1:30pm. Additionally, students are strongly encouraged to enroll in the Summer 2019 course Coun 390, section 8313, 8/12-8/14, MTW 9am – 1:25pm in PC 692 (this will fulfill the orientation requirement).
