Ph.D., Cognitive Psychology, University of Colorado at Boulder

M.A., Cognitive Psychology, University of Colorado at Boulder

B.A., Psychology, University of California at Santa Cruz

A little bit about me... I grew up in rural West Virginia with parents who taught psychology and math at a small college. Although I've traveled to the other side of the country I still prefer to live close to lots of trees.

As an undergrad at UC Santa Cruz I discovered cognitive psychology and developed a fascination with using experiments to understand invisible processes like memory, learning, and language. Thanks to a great experience working in Dr. Jean Fox Tree's lab I decided to go to graduate school at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I studied learning and memory and learned about computational modeling. After graduating I went to work for a small business owned by one of my professors. This company developed new applications for education and assessment - things like automated essay grading, and writing tutors, and training systems for the Army. After the company was sold to Pearson Education (yea, the company that sells expensive textbooks) I left and started my own very tiny business. Along the way I've also done user experience research and statistical consulting.

I've always loved to teach psychology and have been teaching part-time since I was a graduate student. I'm especially excited to share what I know about cognitive psych (and cognitive science), research methods, and statistics with my students at SRJC.
