Academic Experience

I began working at Santa Rosa Junior College in 2012. Before that, I was a librarian at Southwestern Oregon Community College and at the Seattle Public Library. I was fortunate to receive a McKinstry Fellowship while fninishing my MLIS, which gave me the opportunity to work at the University of Washington Libraries.

Before I became a librarian, I worked as a Literature and Composition teacher at Portland Community College, Portland State University, Lewis and Clark College, and the University of Oregon. I also compiled a reference book for Facts on File, and I have worked as a freelance writer and editor.

My name is Smita Avasthi, which many people have difficulty pronouncing. The first name is pronounced like "Smith" with an "A" at the end. The last name is a little harder. Come by the Doyle Library , and I'll walk you through the pronunciation of my last name, or, more interestingly, tell me how I can help you indulge your curiosity.
