Natural Resource Conservation--I am on the local Sierra Club Steering Committee. We look at local issues of land use, transportation, groundwater, zero waste management and climate/energy.  We monitor these conservation situations and communicate with city councils, development, planning department and county supervisors to ensure all these issues are managed in a sustainable way. I have been on the committee for 3 years.

Professional Involvement and Community Service

I serve on the following:

Sierra Club Executive Committee: We look at local issues of land use, transportation, groundwater, zero waste management and climate/energy.  We monitor these situations and communicate with city councils, development, planning department and county supervisors to ensure all these issues are managed in a sustainable way. I have been on the committee for 3 years.

Zero Waste North Bay: Zero Waste North Bay group which puts on /Zero Waste Symposium yearly at Sonoma Mountain Village. This group has created a ZEro Waste REsolution it is trying to get all City Councils in Sonoma County to adopt. I have been very active in a subcommittee of this called the Compost Coalition that has helped get a local composting facility back to Sonoma County.

Master Gardener Program, University of California Extension Program: For the past year I have been training to be a Master Gardener. This program's mission is to teach the horticulture community to garden and manage water and soil sustainably. This means we work with gardeners everywhere and give library workshops and elsewhere on how to create rain gardens, harvest rain, use organic soil ammendments and mulching to produce healthy soil and in gneral to use an integrated approach to growing things that does not require toxic chemicals. It is my goal in this program to learn how to communiate how climate change can be mitigated by growing food and flowers in such a way that carbon is taken from the air and thus reduces the green house gases in the atmosphere.

My highest goal in all of my professional community service is to teach the public about solutions to climate disruption.
