Summer Hours
During the Summer 2022 term, I will be teaching an asynchronous online Philosophy 3, Critical Thinking, course.  I will be available to respond to students' emails and Canvas messages throughout the semester.  I will respond to your email or message within 24 hours, usually much sooner.  I also will be available for one-on-one Zoom-based and in-person office visits.  Just request a visit and I will arrange a meeting within 24 hours, usually much sooner.  While I will be on Santa Rosa Junior College's Santa Rosa campus most Monday through Thursday mornings, I will make myself available for in-person meetings at other times and places too.  Just ask!

I've been teaching at Santa Rosa Junior College since 1994. Over the years I have taught Critical Thinking, Critical Thinking for Reading and Writing, Introduction to Philosophy, Contemporary Moral Issues, Political Philosophy, and the History of Western Philosophy.

As a teacher, I'm committed to demonstrating the everyday significance of deliberating over philosophical issues, and I try to do this in a way that emphasizes the importance of thinking critically about these issues.

As a student, I learned that office visits and Independent Studies can be important parts of learning. As a teacher, I encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities.

When I'm not reading, thinking about, or teaching Philosophy, I'm likely hiking, backpacking, or at least preparing for an outdoor adventure. In many ways, I consider Philosophy an intellectual wilderness adventure, and wilderness walks a philosophical endeavor. The photo above is from a recent journey, a section hike of the P.C.T. to and up Mt. Whitney. The photo was taken by an SRJC student who happened to summit the same morning.

Whether you take a course with me, come across my website, or see me walking around campus, always feel free to ask questions, share your thoughts, or just say "Hi."
