Academic Experience

I have been teaching in one capacity or another for almost 30 years. I started as an instructional assistant during undergraduate school, and became a Graduate student teacher during my Master's work. I completed award winning graduate research on the efficacy of adult education, and published the abstract in a national journal.

When I graduated from school, I started teaching at Heald College, Schools of Business and Technology where I soon became Senior Faculty and an instructional coach. In 1998, I transitioned into the College Skills Department where I have been an instructor for almost 20 years. I teach a broad range of subjects in the language arts, as well as provide instruction in the Academic Skills Lab and Petaluma Tutorial Center.

In addition, until its close, I was part of the Business Office Technology faculty at the Coddingtown Center, where I specialized in teaching software to mature learners.

In 2002, I joined the faculty at Sonoma State University, teaching Gerontology to undergraduate students. It is a joy to be able to use my background in such a fun and diverse way!

In addition to more traditional educational content, I develop and deliver continuing education courses which provide direct service healthcare providers (CNAs, RNs, LVNs, Long Term Care managers, Paramedics and Police) with an understanding of the special needs of the elderly.

I moved to Sonoma County just about 25 years ago, and found paradise! My family and I make our home in Rohnert Park, and enjoy the opportunities for fun and recreation that are just a short drive away. I am a third generation teacher from family of remarkable educators, and am carrying on the "family business."

It is a true delight to work with the students of SRJC as they move toward meeting their life goals. It seems like just yesterday I was sitting in their seats!

Professional Involvement and Community Service

I am very involved in the community, and sometimes don't know when to stop. In addition to my teaching, I am the resident costume designer for Spreckles Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park. Having designed costumes in Sonoma County for the past 15years, I decided a few years ago to scale back and just work in my own back yard. When I am not teaching online or at Sonoma State University, sitting in front of my sewing machine, or following my son as he plays his guitar all over the county, I can be found gardening or reading - my two favorite "quite time" hobbies.
