Coming from a family of 7 children and a single mother, I didn't plan on going to college. Although I had been a good student in high school, graduating near the top of my class, my main goal in life was to make money and move out as soon as possible (and escape the racket of all my younger siblings!)

However, working full-time at Chevron for $5.00 per hour after high school graduation soon changed my mind, and I enrolled in the local community college the following semester.

With the help of financial aid, as well as working throughout my college years, I was able to complete my AA degree at the local community college, and then transfer to a four-year university in the CSU system. I got my BA degree in German from Humboldt State University in 2000, graduating with highest honors (summa cum laude).

Right after graduating, I moved to beautiful Sonoma County in August 2000 and worked full-time in the accounting field for several years. Although I was good at accounting, it was not my passion, and I quit my job in 2003 and backpacked through 18 European countries from May-October that year. It was the trip of a lifetime, and a few of my favorite places were Scotland, Portugal, and Finland.

Soon after I returned from Europe, in January 2004 I was lucky enough to join the faculty of the College Skills/Tutorial Department at SRJC, finding my true home and vocation.

These past 20 years I have been teaching and tutoring students in GED preparation (all subjects), math, writing, and more recently accounting and computer classes here at SRJC. I am very thankful to have such a rewarding and fulfilling job, and I really enjoy the connections I've made with the many wonderful students I've met over the years.

In my free time, I enjoy the usual relaxing and lazy past-times, such as TV-watching and reading, as well as astronomy, bird-watching, photography, music, dance, and art. A fun weekend for me is going out dancing with my friends to great live music, relaxing at home on my front porch, or getting out in nature.

I hope to make class a fun, rewarding, and educational experience, and I look forward to meeting all of you!
