In this course students will study the sequence of growth and development (physical, cognitive, psychosocial) of children ages 3-5, with an emphasis on practical applications and the adult role in supporting optimal growth in a variety of contexts. Students will conduct a series of child observations as a tool to study the characteristics of development in this age group.

2. Describe typical developmental expectations for children ages 3-5.
3. Describe factors that influence variations in developmental skills, including culture, societal influences, family influences, physical and intellectual disabilities for children ages 3-5 in a variety of contexts.
4. Use observational skills to evaluate the growth and development of children ages 3-5.

d. Write report(s) based on naturalistic observations that integrate theory from lecture (1-4 papers of approximately 1500 words)
3. Conduct naturalistic observation(s) of children ages 3-5 using anecdotal and/or running record format
