Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate how the snaffle bit functions
2. Analyze proper application of various bits.
3. Identify and practice skills needed in fundamental riding maneuvers.
4. Demonstrate proper control of horse movement.
5. Develop correct body position with the horse to work on refining and controlling movements.
6. Develop skill in recognizing timing and correction to complete each maneuver.
Topics and Scope

1. Bit function and applicability.
2. Adjustability of gaits.
3. Footfalls of each gait.
4. Identify and pick up proper leads.
5. Exacting circle and straight line riding.
6. Correct pattern and schooling figures work with smooth transitions.
Assignments:

1. Reading assignments will be taken from periodical text and instructor prepared materials. Average 15 pages a week.
2. Worksheets, class notes, and study guides will be the writing assignments.
3. Riding skills practical exams
4. Field work, riding skills practice and demonstration
