Successful completion of this course will enable the students to build on their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training and become more qualified as an entry-level job candidates. Discipline, teamwork, and personal accountability are strongly emphasized. Academy uniform, gym apparel, and related safety equipment are required.

COURSE CONTENT

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Identify professional attributes that will lead to entry-level employment as an Emergency Medical Technician.

2. Demonstrate skills required for job eligibility as an  Emergency Medical Technician.

3. Develop a resume and interview strategies that will assist in successful employment as an Emergency Medical Technician.

 

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.   Discuss components of the California Emergency Medical Services system.

2.   Identify basic safety issues as they apply to a pre-hospital environment involving a medical

      emergency.

3.   Identify and safely demonstrate a high-risk response that could involve weapons, explosives,

      nuclear substances or devices, biological hazards, any chemical/hazardous materials and

      crime scenes.

4.   Demonstrate skills necessary to safely maneuver an ambulance and operate all related

      medical and rescue equipment.

5.   Practice rigorous physical training activities.

6.   Identify and discuss the classic signs and symptoms of psychological emergencies.

7.   Demonstrate safe and appropriate patient takedown maneuvers.

8.   Demonstrate safe and appropriate patient restraint techniques.

9.   Demonstrate proper moving and lifting techniques.

10. Demonstrate effective health care provider-patient verbal communication skills.

11. Identify and practice the basic skills necessary to complete

12. Formulate qualities that lead to successful employment in the emergency medical services

      profession.

13. Prepare for Emergency Medical Technician -- Basic National certification.

14. Develop written communication skills necessary to complete a patient report.

15. Discuss pre-hospital medical-legal requirements.
