This course fulfills the requirements of Section 832 of the Penal Code as mandated by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for agencies authorizing the use of firearms.  Firearms topics covered include care and maintenance, function, safety, shooting positions and fundamentals.  Successful completion of a POSTaccuracy test is required  for course completion.

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.   Describe and preform all procedures for the safe handling of all firearms while on and off duty.
2.   Demonstrate the workings, capabilities, and limitations of firearms and ammunition in order to operate a firearm safely and effectively.
3.   Demonstrate and perform the fundamental skills of firing firearms to be effective and reactive in precision situations during live fire exercises.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
1.  State the fundamental rules of firearms safety and explain safety guidelines to be followed at a firing range.
2.  Describe the basic information about a semiautomatic pistol and magazine.
3.  Describe the basic information about a revolver.
4.  Apply the proper steps for drawing and holstering a firearm.
5.  Demonstrate essential elements to accurately shoot a firearm.
6.  Describe conditions and physiological responses an officer may experience when in a combat situation.

      a.  PC 12035(d)(1) criminal storage of a firearm is a felony
      b.  PC 12034(d) (2) storage of a firearm is a misdemeanor.
3.  Basic information about semiautomatic pistol and magazine
4.  Basic information about revolvers
5.  Guidelines for safe handling of ammunition
6.  Proper steps for drawing and holstering
7.  Essential elements required to accurately shoot a firearm
8.  Conditions an officer may face in a combat situation
9.  Physiological responses an officer may experience under the stress of a combat situation
