COURSE CONTENT

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Augment their philosophical knowledge through self-designed study.

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Produce an independent study project on a philosophical subject.

2. Demonstrate knowledge about that subject.

Topics and Scope

Varies depending upon the project selected.

Student submits a draft outline to supervising instructor, under whose direction a final outline is agreed upon.

Assignments:

1.  Final project which demonstrates comprehension of the subject matter.

2.  Reading of books and/or journal articles by reputable philosophers (approximately 20 to 50 pages per week).

3.  Weekly consultation with instructor throughout the semester to discuss requirements and work in progress.

Writing: Assessment tools that demonstrate writing skill and/or require students to select, organize and explain ideas in writing.		Writing 70 - 90%
