COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Plan an independent study project on a philosophical subject as an expansion of knowledge already acquired in the classroom.

2. Demonstrate knowledge about that subject.

Topics and Scope

Varies depending upon the project selected.

Student submits a draft outline to supervising instructor, under whose direction a final outline is agreed upon.

Assignments:

Term paper which demonstrates comprehension of the subject matter.

Reading of books and/or journal articles by reputable philosophers (approximately 20 to 50 pages per week).

Consultation with instructor weekly throughout the semester to discuss requirements and work in progress.

Writing: Assessment tools that demonstrate writing skill and/or require students to select, organize and explain ideas in writing.		Writing 80 - 90%
