COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Analyze advantages and uses of snaffle bit.
2.  Analyze problems and solutions with snaffle bit vs. reining bits.
3.  Identify and practice skills needed in direct reining.
4.  Demonstrate use of new and innovative training techniques and
   costs involved.

Topics and Scope

1.  Demonstrate how the snaffle bit functions.
2.  Ride with snaffle bit.
3.  Collection and exaction of movement.
4.  Gaits and footfalls of each gait.
5.  Pick up proper leads.
6.  Exacting circle and straight line riding.
7.  Correct pattern work with clean transitions.
8.  Identify form and function of a horse through its conformation.

Assignments:

1.  Reading assignments will be taken from periodical and text.  Average
   15 pages a week.
2.  Worksheets, class notes, and study guides will be the writing
   assignments.
